To celebrate immigrant moms ahead of Mother’s Day we are painting Poderosa, a live mural at the Texas State Capitol. Join us!
Poderosa is a mural portrait of an immigrant mom from Austin and her kids. It was created by artist Claudia Gizell Aparicio-Gamundi. “Poderosa” is a traveling mural that will be display around the city of Austin to remind lawmakers that they must treat the women who hold up our community with dignity and respect.
Immigrant mother’s make incredible sacrifices to give their children opportunities they never had. They work hard, care for our families, and are the cornerstone of our community. Despite all this they have come under attack by elected officials. President Donald Trump, Governor Greg Abbott, and countless Texas legislators say our immigrant moms are a drain on society, and they are passing laws like SB4, which put our moms at risk of violence, detention, and deportation. Our moms deserve better.
***A special thank you to Texas House Representative Gina Hinojosa for sponsoring the event. Representative Hinojosa fought hard against SB4 and is she is a tireless advocate for the Latino families. ***
